    Michigan State - Vanderjagt Jacket

Anyone on the forum know anything about Michigan State lettermen jackets? I recently picked this up and the seller told me that while he (seller) was attending Michigan State and living in Brody Complex, he purchased the jacket from another Michigan State student.

The jacket was presented to and worn by Mike Vanderjagt. King O’Shea made the jacket. Stitched inside the jacket are three labels. The first label has the embroidery M. Vanderjast. I believe that the correct spelling is VANDERJAGT. The second label is a Blackburn Sporting Goods label and the final label is a size label that reads, Chest 42”, Sleeve +2, Body Lgt. + 2”.

The jacket is in terrific condition and the body of the jacket is wool while the sleeves are leather.

Any help would be appreciated. I can provide extra scans if necessary. My email address is flaa1a@comcast.net

I know that King O'shea did many different school jackets through the 50's to the early 80's. The tag on your jacket was used throughout most of the 60's and 70's. All King O'shea jackets that I have come across have secondary or supplement tagging from a local crester or sporting goods shop.

I recently acquired a similar, but earlier King O'shea jacket belonging to a player or coach from the Michigan Wolverines. It seems O'Shea did many western and mid western schools. I also have seen O'shea tagging on colorado school based teams like the Air Force Academy.

If you're ever selling it, let me know.

I also believe this jacket is from the 60s. So this couldn't be Mike Vanderjact, "the idiot kicker". Nice jacket, there is a MSU guru on this forum, maybe he has something to add.

    Blackburn tags from another jersey:

    BTPH,

Great looking tag, do you have photos of the entire jacket?

From a 50s/60s durene, also made by King O'Shea with Blackburn custom tags. I sold this shirt for $28 a few months ago. Yeah, my big twenty-eight! I'm a financial wiz.

I would have given you at least 29.00 bucks for that.

That O'shea tag is interesting, usually the oval below the font says chicago on it, weird that it doesn't say the location as most tags I've seen do.

BTPH do you have a consistent tag primer for this brand?

No primer. I have many examples on file, however.

Patent is earlier, I think jersey is from a couple of years later.

    Late 60s to early 70s:

Early 60s: with "Chicago" in bubble.

2 things...Mike Vanderjagt (the crazy kicker) went to West Virginia not Michigan State and in your jacket the last letter before the "t" in the name appears to be an "s"....just my 2 cents...
