The Model W183 was first manufactured on 5/25/55 to Ted Williams' specifications, combining elements of models S180 and W166. All bats documented in Williams' personal H & B records during the period 1950 to 1960 were 35 inches in length, regardless of the model. In fact, no documentation exists that Williams ever ordered any bat during his playing career between 1937 and 1960 that was less than 35 inches in length. The 35 inch length accounted for 99 % of his orders, with just a few random orders of 36 inch and 38 inch lengths. Weights of Williams' bat orders ranged between 31 ounces and 41 ounces, with the majority being in the 33 ounce to 32 to 35 ounce range.
The only dicumentation that exists in Williams' personal records of any order less than 35 inches is a single post-career order on 6/23/78 of six Model W183 bats 34 inches / 33 ounces.
