    Today's Auction Buys

Went to a local estate auction today and it was a bonanza of collectibles of all kinds...And I did find some things that fit in my collection...

1931 Football from local High School game/with names of all players and score of game...came with a photo of the team as well.

Picked up a big lot of about 200+ 1960's baseball cards.

Two real photo postcards of Jack Dempsey.

And Joe would probably love these - two Granger Tobacco Standees one with the Fencing coach at Seton Hall and the other is the "famous swimming coach" Victor lawson.

And then some Diamond matchbooks of baseball/football and Hockey with many of them unused...The best of the lot is an unused Paul Waner.

AAAHHHH!! Nothing like a couple puffs of mild Granger in your pipe before that big 200M swim race...good for the lungs. ...but what do I know...I'm not a "famous swim coach".

Nice lot dan. Those tobacco standees are pretty neat. I imagine those are pretty rare and hard to come by. Too bad they didn't have a baseball like Mize or Medwick then you'd really have a bonanza....but these two would fit into my collection too.

Where were these pictures taken? Is this your memorabilia room or at the estate auction? If at the auction it looks like there are some other nice sports items that were for sale too??

I own a video store and I have baseball memorabilia in the display case that I use for my front counter....I change it up every couple of weeks...I get lots of comments and I also have gotten some leads from people who look at it which is why I put the stuff in there in the first place.

I was sure hoping that there would be some Granger baseball items....They just put sports stars in the ad, but I can't feel too bad as I got the pair for $60. Probably the best deal I got was the two Dempsey postcards for $5. I picked up a huge amount of stuff today that's going to keep me busy on ebay for a while....Tons of postcards and posters...Including posters for the Arm & Hammer bird cards of the 1910's, 1930-40's magician/magic show posters, circus posters, movie posters, Big Band (swing era)posters...A very early mohair teddy bear, auburn rubber toys still in the original packaging....anything to make money on.

What neat stuff have you bought in the store because of your display case?

I always found when I owned two trading card and coin stores back in the 1990s that the primary purpose of the store was not to sell merchandise, but to buy from the public. I should start advertising here in Las Vegas to buy memorabilia - I miss that trade.

I've gotten some old gloves and a couple of programs....nothing major, but I love to talk about baseball and it gets a lot of conversations going.

This is an old posting but do you still have the Granger Standee of the fencing coach. He is my Grandfather. Please contact me if you do.

Sorry, I sold it about a year and half back on ebay...I have no clue who bought it from me. I'm really sorry...wish I would have held on to it now knowing that it could have gone to a family member.
