Unpublished Ryne Sandberg Phillies Photo
Topps is selling an original photo negative of Ryne Sandberg from spring training 1981 on eBay. A forum member owns this jersey, if I remember correctly.

It's nice to see tough photos like this come to light every so often.

Re: Unpublished Ryne Sandberg Phillies Photo
It looks like Mr. Howard Wolf owns the jersey. At first glance the pinstripes don't appear to match. Look at the 24. Too bad. That would have been a great jersey to photomatch.

Always looking for game used bats from Andre Dawson, Ryne Sandberg, Mark Grace, Jody Davis, Shawon Dunston, Jerome Walton, Rick Sutcliffe, and Greg Maddux. Preferably CUBS era bats.

H&S auctions will have a 81 Sandberg Jersey for auction. The jersey number is 37? Did he change his number after the start of the season?

Re: Unpublished Ryne Sandberg Phillies Photo
I just checked the Baseball Almanac and they stated Ryne's number in 1981 was #37.

Yes, it appears that Sandberg wore the number 24 during Spring Training, then Len Matuszek took the number later in the regular season. It also appears that longtime Phillie Greg Gross was using the number 23 in 1981, the number that Sandberg would take with the Cubs.

Re: Unpublished Ryne Sandberg Phillies Photo
Topps Vault is a great seller...no watermarks. I have several negatives from them. I ALWAYS search for "negative" "slide" or "unpublished photo". The photos are usually taken with natural light, and finding a photomatch is possible. Take a look at some of the NFL negatives, Topps is offering for sale....great stuff...By my calculations, I will have 8,000 photos in my files by May, 2013.
