    Mickey Mantle 1961 - 64 era bats

    Hi,

Thank you for the info on the Ted Williams bat.

    Three questions.

What kind of finish did Mickey Mantle want on his bats during the 1961-64 time period?

Have you seen any Mantle game used bats that did not have a model number stamped on the knob? This could be due to quality control missing that aspect on a particular batch.

Can you tell me what lengths, weights, and models he ordered during this time period?

    Thank you once again.

Re: Mickey Mantle 1961 - 64 era bats

    Hi Sammy:

During the 61 - 64 labeling period, Mantle ordered wide grain bats during the entire period. On March 3, 1961, there is an order of F108 bats that were 35.5" - 35 ounces that were flame burned - he ordered three of these bats. Starting on March 29 1963, all his orders through May 24, 1963 ( four total orders ) were for flame burned finish bats, in addition to the wide grain. There were two orders on March 29th - one for 35" - 32 ounce F108 bats and the other for 35" - 31 ounce F108 bats. Both orders were for 6 bats. The other two orders were on May 24th - one for three K90 bats that were 35.5" - 32 ounces and one for 3 K90 bats that were 35.5" - 33 ounces. After this order in May, it appeared that he went back to just wide grain bats without the flame burned finish.

Regarding your question about a bat that may not have been stamped from this time period - I have never seen one of Mantle, or anoy other player for that fact - Mike Specht or someone else on the Forum may have and if so - please let Sammy know. In the early 70's. there are examples of bats that did not have the model number stamped on the knob - McCovey bats come to mind in a couple of instances I have seen over the years that had perfect McCovey use attributes.

During the 61-64 labeling period, Mantle ordered the following bats:

    3-3-61 ( F108 / 35.5" - 35 ounces ) 3 bats
    3-14-61 ( P72 / 34.5" - 33 ounces ) 6 bats
    3-14-61 ( M110 / 35" - 33 ounces ) 6 bats
    3-23-61 ( B220 / 35" - 33 ounces ) 12 bats
    3-31-61 ( M110 / 35" - 33 ounces ) 12 bats
    5-23-61 ( B220 / 35" - 33 ounces ) 4 bats
    6-2-61 ( B220 / 35" - 33 ounces ) 3 bats
    7-10-61 ( B220 / 35" - 32 ounces ) 6 bats
