    1998 griffey:
    http://www.americanmemorabilia.com/A...ction_ID=15901

"r" on the back. no year tagging present.

    "1998" arod with "team letter":
    http://www.americanmemorabilia.com/A...ction_ID=16604

1998 jersey with MLB logo on the back. the MLB logo was first used on the back in 2000. i guess a-rod was ahead of his time. oddly enough, the russell tag is pre-2000. no year tagging.

    1998 arod:
    http://www.americanmemorabilia.com/A...ction_ID=14837

no "r" on the back. unlike AMI's other 1998 arod home vest, this one has no mlb logo on the back and this one has year tagging.

    1998 pinella:
    http://www.americanmemorabilia.com/A...ction_ID=13281

"r" on the back. year tagged.

confused yet? this might do it:

note the 2 different styles of fonts used in the 1998 year tag. the picture shows the third griffey 1998 home vest in this thread. according to the evidence in this thread then, a 1998 mariners home vest gamer should:

    - have an mlb logo
    - not have an mlb logo
    - have an "r"
    - not have an "r"
    - have neither an "r" nor an mlb logo
    - be year tagged in one font
    - be year tagged in another font
    - not have any year tagging

Re: 1998 griffey mariners jersey ..did they sport no sleeves at home?

unfortunately, mariners jerseys aren't my niche and in order to arrive at a decent guess you need to solve some pretty specific issues. i'm not sure you'll be able to find the answers prior to the close of the vintage auction. if you can't, i wouldn't rush into things with the intention of shooting first and asking questions later. it may take you awhile to solve the mystery of the '98 mariners home vests.

as far as i know, the home vests were only worn in '97, '98 and '99. i don't understand why or how any would ever have an mlb logo on the back. i have no idea whether they should or shouldn't have an "r" on the back and that may possibly be an important issue.
personally i have a feeling they should be year tagged. i don't know what the proper tag font should be. rather than using a griffey or arod as a baseline, i'd use a common like the pinella. oddly enough the one i like the least is the arod with team letter. i can't really comment on the VA griffey because i don't know enough about them. i'd try to find out how often they wore these vests. the fact that 3 griffeys have popped up in this thread alone isn't overly comforting.

i know there are some people on this forum with a great deal of knowledge about mariners items, namely howard wolf and ty moore. anyway, here's a '97 home vest from ty's site:
