    Pujols Rookie Bat

    Trying to help a friend...

Can anyone verify this as a Pujols rookie bat? The knob reads 707B 725 01. My friend wants to purchase this bat from a bat boy on his way to college...asked me for help but I'm no expert. Can anyone tell me anything about it and what they would pay?

    Thanks!

    Re: Pujols Rookie Bat

I would like to see the whole bat.

So far, it looks promising. Email me and I'll tell you all about it.

The bat has another players uniform number on it.So it will be hard to tell but I'm not expert. I did send an email asking them to contact Jeff Scott and see what he says.If this is a real Albert Pujols bat I would make an offer since theres seem no be no Mcgwire bats out there.

    Re: Pujols Rookie Bat

I was contacted about this via e-mail. Along with photos, he shared the batboy's story of how he got the bat. The story had holes. For example, he said Placido Polanco used the bat to hit a HR, then Albert used the same bat -- grounding out and breaking the bat in the process. I checked the box score -- Albert struck out swinging after Polanco's HR. As for the bat, the pine tar is too high on the barrel and the use is extremely heavy; uncharacteristic for Albert. The knob has two blacked-out numbers in addition to Polanco's #27. Without airtight proof of the bat being used as the batboy describes, this seems to be just another bat issued to Pujols but used by someone else.

It probably still has some value. I just saw a Tino Martinez/Pujols bat sell for about $650 on eBay a few weeks ago. Polanco still has fans in STL (myself included) and Martinez has few if any.

The numbers being blacked out is a concern. More than once is a real flag.

Most high end bats come with a story. Even bats with provenance seem to occasionally have holes in the stories. That's why the genuine articles are worth so much.

Jeff's opinion means alot to me, personally - so I would buy this bat based on his opinion. It's a Pujols issued bat used by another player (s).
