    Another Lou Lampson Mess Up

I am always on the hunt for Jake Peavy GU items. Recently a few items were auctioned off at Historic Auctions. All three of the items (hat, cleats, glove) were authenticated by Lou Lampson as being used by Jake in his 2007 Cy Young season.

I tried to photomatch these beforehand since Lou's name didn't provide a lot of confidence. The glove and cleats were difficult, but the hat (http://www.historicauctions.com/imag...4/DSC_1837.jpg) proved to be interesting. The listing is at http://www.historicauctions.com/sear...ctionid/41265/.

This hat doesn't even match the style of hat used in 2007. In 2007 the Padres hats were dark blue under the bill. I found some pictures from 2006 that seem to match this hat (dirt stains, etc), so I do believe it is authentic. However, it is definitely not from the 2007 season as stated in the listing.

It is interesting that you mention that auction. The hat I actually was bidding on. I had what appeared to be a photo match on the hat. The photo host site indicated that the photo was from 2007. I was later outbid, the night my computer crashed. Bummer!!!

I've included photos that seem to match the stains on the bill. Also, I have not included a link to the auction site, as I know it blocks a direct link from the GUU site. But I have included photos of the glove and the hat.

Anyway, I tried my best to match the glove. In all of the photos I found, of Peavy wearing that style and color of glove, the strings did not match. In addition, there was an obvious gap in between the index and middle fingers (in the photos of the glove on Peavy's hand). That gap was lacking in the auction glove. Hopefully you can see it in these pictures.

I never did try to match the cleats.
