Dwight Gooden bat Need Help

Hello,
I have a Dwight Gooden gamer from Louisville Slugger. It's a M253. I've seen plenty of blonde bats in this model but haven't been able to locate any other 'brunette' models. Can anyone tell me how many he ordered and what year? Judging by the signature, it's definitely pre 1989.

It looks identical to a bat I sold a big Mets collector about a year or so ago.If it is the same one, I got it from the Mets clubhouse in October '89.
