Re: Bat Display ideas
Haha...I can understand that!
Are all those bats from one team or just kind of bats from everywhere?

Re: Bat Display ideas
I wrote two separate long-winded replies yesterday, and my computer ate both of them...so I'll boil it down this time.
I started out in '98 collecting just Diamondbacks bats, but soon began buying bats (and jerseys, etc) from DBacks players' former teams. I've slowed up on doing that so much, but still collect certain players (Luis Gonzalez, Greg Colbrunn, Steve Finley, Danny Bautista) regardless of their team affiliation at the time. (I have 15, 33, 10, and 20 of those guys' bats, respectively).
Nearly all of the bats (and jerseys) that I buy now are from the Diamondbacks, their minor league affiliates, and things like Team U.S.A. and WBC jerseys of DBacks players. (I just bought Max Scherzer's 2005 Team U.S.A. jersey, for example.)
I also try to find at least one bat, regardless of team, for each DBacks manager, coach, front office guy or broadcaster, and get it signed.

Re: Bat Display ideas
The first pic was the closet in my "bat room". Took the closet out and purchased some 2x4's from Lowes. Next I found some dowels I thought would be thick enough to support a bat. Then I measured how much distance I would need between dowels on the 2x4 in order to fit the neck of the bat by the knob. Lastly I drilled the holes in the 2x4 at a slight downward angle, mounted it to the wall, inserted the precut dowels and hung the bats. This appoach is nice because you can cut the 2x4 into any length you need and it is cheap!! Pic 2 is more of the same although I purchased these from Home Depot about 10 years ago and was only able to find them online recently. The price I found them at was higher than I wanted to pay so I made my own.
The last photo is a custom bat tube holder a friend of mine made about 10 years ago followed by gun rack style holders my grandfather made for me. Both of these are way beyond my level of expertise but I thought I would throw them in to give you ideas.
I have managed to get 350 bats up on the walls in a roughly 13x10 ft room with one wall soley being shelving.
Hope this helps!

Re: Bat Display ideas
This is probably the "weak spot" in my basement, but I think it will look better over time as I aquire more bats.
I just anchor two long boards horizontally on the wall. Then I screw in these U-shaped thingys that are used for hanging rakes and such in your garage. They have rubber on them so they don't scratch the bats.Scott Harpt

Re: Bat Display ideas
I am still trying to decide how I want to display my stuff. I've had my house for 5 years, and still haven't gotten it all together. Not to mention, my collection has taken a few turns over the years...
I bought these cheap red-powder coated steel bat racks on eBay for under $20 - and they hold 9 bats each. Good temporary fix. In my first stages of collecting bats, I bought big, expensive display cases - and decided that they were bulky, and took up too much space. I want to be able to see and grabs bats whenever the mood strikes, but I also want space to display photos, etc. along side of them.Dave
