    tony gwynn bat on ebay

    take a looksy. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330276236319

personally, if it doesn't match the records i won't bother. i asked the seller a question and this is his answer:

me: what is the length? cupped or uncupped?
him: 32.5". The barrel end is not cupped. The bat is not cracked. There is some dead wood on the back...

my reply regarding the the bat records on this model is this:
thank you for getting back to me. that bat comes up in his bat records as a promotional model. it is listed as a promo for a 1987 shipment.

    his reply:
thanks for your response. I have spoken in the past with several authenticators and they have told be that players often used bats that did not appear on the shipping records or as promo bats. They base their opinion on the player using similar bats and the use that the bat displays. This bat shows that use (pine tar) and is of a similar weight. Gwynn used a lot of pine tar during his career.

Please do not bid on the bat if you do not think you will be satisfied with it..

if a person is going to authenticate a bat, shouldn't they look at the records, if they have them for reference?

Boy, even besides the bat not being in Tony's records the tar doesn't look like it is how Gwynn applied it. The knob looks as though the #14 is turned into #19. Way too many red flags for me.
