Pete Rose Mizuno bat-legit or not? Help.
Rose Mizuno 1985-86 gamer. 34 inches long. 31 ounces. ATHL printed on knob. Just wanted to make sure this is a real ordered bat for Pete to use and not a bat that was made for signings or something. LMK Rose experts. Thanks,

My guess, and its strictly a guess, is that this is a 1986 BP bat. The repeated wear in one spot, the tape, etc.
The ATHL stands for "all time hits leader" so that would have been ordered after September 1985.

I said that the knob had ATHL and it doesn't. Should the knob have an A on it or not? Any more help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, the bat should have an "A" stamped in the knob.
Plus, there are one or two other problems that I wish to keep private -- to thwart the counterfeiters.

Taping is not the issue. Rose taped his bats differently in 1985 and 1986.
Sanding of the bat barrel is not the issue.
