Follow the big auctions, as they come up every once in a while. I've auctioned seen silver sluggers that belonged to Tony Gwynn, Mike Schmidt and Dave Parker.

Unless I'm mistaken, a silver slugger is given to the player with highest batting average at each position, AL and NL.

Why do you think Quentin would dump his newly won Silver Slugger award on the memorablilia market? Based on everything he's gone through in the last couple years, I'm pretty confident he's hanging on to that award. You'd have to hope a copy was made and the bat slipped out the back door of the factory.

Maybe BMH could comment on how many of these are made and where they end up.

A silver slugger is a prized possession. I would think players would sell them when either they are in financial dire straights or won so many they won't miss one or two. The ones I've seen on the market came from the big stars who won a bunch of them, ala Tony Gwynn. If Gwynn auctioned 2-3 he'd probably still have 15 left in his closet.

There are actually two different awards. One is the Silver Bat given to the batting champ in each league. The other is the Silver Slugger given to the best offensive player at his position as voted by the coaches and managers.

Always looking for game used bats from Andre Dawson, Ryne Sandberg, Mark Grace, Jody Davis, Shawon Dunston, Jerome Walton, Rick Sutcliffe, and Greg Maddux. Preferably CUBS era bats.
