    Jeff Kent to announce retirement

    http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9...ement?MSNHPHMA

Let the debate begin whether he is a HOF caliber player. I have 4 of his bats so I say YES

I'm not up on his numbers, but I'd compare them to Joe Morgan, a HOF'er in every sense of the word..........

I would guess not the first year, but I think sometime Kent will get in. If you focus on 2B his numbers are nice.

If you look at these categories, Kent measures up great. Like Adam said, maybe not first year, but eventually I'd say he's a sure thing:

    Kent: Morgan
    H: 2461 2517
    BA: .290 .271
    OB: .356 .392
    SLU: .500 .427
    HR: 377 268
    RBI:1518 1133

Offensively, one of the best hitting 2b to ever play. Not too shabby with a glove either.

Kent was always one of those guys I truly enjoyed watching, like Grace, Mattingly, etc.

I always wanted a Kent bat.

Re: Jeff Kent to announce retirement

I will always have a lot of respect for this guy because he had the cahonas to stand toe to toe with a freakoid juice monster on his same team......everyone saw the moriphized superman "push" Bonds came at Kent with in the famous dugout argument in San Francisco.......Kent never backed down.

If it had gone to blows, Kent would have been killed, because as we now know (yes, KNOW), he would have been fighting a chemically built-up strength hulk with super-human powers....good thing the teammates jumped in to split them up.

That said, Kent is absolutely a Hall of Famer.....played the game right, cared about winning......just was a bit too opinionated and strict in his ideas towards the game and his teammates who didn't play as he saw fit. I particularly chuckle over the loathsome feelings he displayed in 2007 towards the "younger rookies" establishing themselves on the Dodgers. He had no time for their trend of thinking "Hey, I'm just happy to BE here" instead of "what can I do to help us win".

It's all good as far as getting him to the Hall. The sports writers will do the right thing......I don't think it will take 4 or 5 years, he's a lock. The numbers are among the BEST for second baseman......NO ONE knew how to hit a double better than Jeff, and he did win an MVP. He fit's the bill.

Enjoy your retirement Jeff, thanks for the years and the effort, and most of all, for respecting the game we all love. That fact, above all, gives you your place in the Hall.

Suicide Squeeze-I agree. Well said. It's not a debate at all. With 2,500+ hits; 375 HR's; 1500+ rbis; 550+ doubles; Most of these are records for a second baseman and a 2000 mvp with steroid boy on his same team-what is there to debate?
