Lightbulb 1985 Mike Scott Astros jersey - for sale or trade

$499 (plus $6 to ship) or will consider trades for Red Sox jersey from the same era or '70s Texas Rangers jersey.

    Thanks,

Upon further review, it looks like the nameplate has been re-attached. The wear/fading on the plate matches that of the other numbers so I'm sure that it's a vintage Astros plate... you can see an outline about 1/4" (or less) on the right side of the plate when the jersey is turned inside out... thanks to Lelands for not pointing this out in the auction listing!

Also, there is an SP written in black marker on the inside of the right arm/sleeve seam. Anyone know what this means?!? Please see here:

    Roger,

Yeah, you have one of the famous Astros recycled jerseys. I would say 95-98% of Astros jerseys from the 1980s were recycled to the Minor Leagues. As for the SP, you have a jersey that has been restored by Smoking Pistols. Smoking Pistols was a game used dealer run by Tom Sharon and John Phillips from the late 1980s to just a few years ago. If only one sleeve has the SP and line, then it is an original nameplate restored to a jersey. If the SP is on both sleeves, then the nameplate has been recreated (ie. not original to a previous jersey).

I still have about 500 name plates from Astros jerseys. They were found in a closet when the Astros were moving out of the Astrodome in late 1999. They were given to me to help restore jerseys or match them up to blanks. There are still a lot of jerseys missing nameplates out there. In fact there is one company that has a lot of them and commonly sell on eBay, but can't remember their name,

Hope this helps! Sorry to hear about the poor description. Lelands probably didn't know what I just described above, so the beans are out.

    Thanks,

    Chris,

Thank you for shedding some light on this! This jersey only has this on one sleeve so at least the nameplate is "original." I wish these auction houses did this much researching before they auctioned off these jerseys!

    Thanks again,
    Roger

I remember meeting Tom Sharon at the National (in Cleveland?) a few years ago. I was looking for a Scott jersey (I collect bats and jerseys of players with my last name) and he pulled out three Mike Scott shirts from boxes under the table -- then explained how he had restored all three. That was the first thing I thought of when I saw this post. I lost interest in the jerseys knowing they were restored and didn't buy one... but I've developed some buyer's remorse since then because Tom was asking only $135 each, if I recall correctly. Ah, the good ol' days.

Well, Lelands is looking better and better on this one Since we now know that the jersey is a gamer and the nameplate is original (albeit not for this jersey), does anyone have ANY interest in it?!? Still looking' to trade for a Red Sox jersey.

    Thanks,
    Roger

I know that the one piece I ever had was recycled to the minors:

1984 Dave Smith pants, recycled down to a AAA Tuscon pitcher named Bob Hurta.

Thank you to all that have replied on this thread... good info.

First offer of $399 (plus $6 to ship). I'll take a $100 loss on this one, but that's about it

    Thanks again,

Wish I could edit my posting... since I can't, I'm letting all know that this jersey is now on eBay starting at $9.99 with full disclosure!

    Thanks,
    Roger
