Smile Gary Sheffield bat - 1987

Wanted to share a quick story. I was living in Stockton, California during 1987 and began to really follow minor league baseball. Toward the end of the Stockton Ports season I asked Gary Sheffield if I could have one of his bats, he said sure, gave me one with a slight crack in the handle and autographed it for me. Gary signed the bat in ballpoint pen, a few of my friends thought the signature was difficult to read. I took the bat back to the ballpark a few days later and asked Gary if he would sign the bat again in a Sharpie, he obliged.

I've kept this bat all that time and now that Gary is approaching 500, it's not the most valuable memorabilia I have, but has the most sentimental value.

Even if he doesn't make the HOF and all the roid talk, it's something I'll always treasure.

p.s. I think he had his initials engraved on his teeth.

That's an awesome piece to have. Probably the last thing you'll ever sell.

Very nice bat. I have an '88 Sheffield rookie bat with his #1 on the knob, it's one of my favorites. Hopefully he makes the hall with the rest of the steroid era players.
