Stupid Question

I just got a bat and I was told that the handle has been shaved. What exactly does this mean?

some players shave their bat handles down to give a better grip. They may use railings, bones, etc.

I have seen Posada take quite a few bats and use railings

No question by a forum member should be considered "stupid" in my opinion. I went several years not really knowing what "deadwood" was, and I was too embarrassed to ask anyone. This thread should be kept active in perpetuity, just for that purpose.
