    OT - Hobby/Collection Website

Any recommendations for building a collection website? I've got a sorry little Yahoo page, but was thinking of trying to build something a little nice looking.

    Thanks!

I would recommend www.freewebs.com It is very easy to work with and has options to make your site unique. I know several members here have sites there as well as myself. This is mine:

    www.freewebs.com/canseco44

    Thanks, Todd

Freewebs is good, but if you want to avoid the advertising banners, you can build an inexpensive, advertsing-free Blog (with unlimited extra pages for images etc.) through hosting sites such as www.typepad.com.

While I don't have extra image pages showing addtional items from my collection yet, I plan to add them. chris

I use the paid version of freewebs. No banners & plenty of storage for the hundreds of pictures I have on my page. It's only $5 a month, and worth it in my opinion.

I use the same site as Kyle and for the most part am pleased with it. I would definelty spend the extra couple bucks a year to keep the advertising down and the extra space for photos. I'm surprised more people on this forum don't create sites. A lot of people claim to have tons of stuff that most other collectors would enjoy seeing.

    Thanks guys.

I moved my content to a webs.com page and bought the ad-free page. Looks a little better than the old setup.

Now I just need to transfer the domain name and I should be good to go.

Also found that old 'collection sites" thread to look thru.

All big sites starts small. A site seems piddly at first, but if you regularly or semi-regularly add stuff it even eventually be big.

Someone asked me how I got so much stuff on my site, and I said I've been updating it for 9 years.

I just added a "photo-archives" section to my website. There is no rhyme or reason, just a lot of vintage images.
Many are from my personal collection, some are original negatives, a few are unpublished and never before seen. I have yet to add descriptions and titles. I call this "Poor Man's Getty". All sports represented.
