    baseball bats question

I have a question. I am working on a dinner auction for the high school I work at. We received two bats that look to be game used, possibly not seeing as neither of them have tape on them. But they are autographed. I was wondering what the value would be/what I should start the first bid at for these items?

1st bat: black Louisville Slugger M9 "Powerized". Etched in the bat: "Genuine M356 Alfonso Soriano Texas Rangers". With the number 12 on the top and Soriano's signature in silver sharpie on the bat.

2nd bat: black Old Hickory bat, with "34.5 Pro DL25 Derrek Lee" etched with again, his signature in silver sharpie. Then on the top in silver sharpie it says "25 34.5 31.4"

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: baseball bats question

I'm not sure about a starting bid, but you might be able to tell if they're actually game-used or not by looking for anything on the knob or the end of the barrel, or if there's anything sticky on the handle (not a lot of players use tape, actually, but almost everyone uses something).

    Re: baseball bats question

the Soriano bat is NOT used. He does tape the handles of his bats, so that is a key factor that is missing, along with pine tar, and any real signs if use. In addition, the autograph is suspect. The "f" in Alfonso doesn't seem right to me. I have ton of Sori autographs, and none have the "f" slanted that way. Your bat has it leaning to the right, and the autos I have are basically straight up & down, and not curved like that. Also, I have seen several of his signatures with the "hurried" version of Soriano, but this one has a strange line above it which I haven't seen. I could be totally wrong, and this is just my opinion. Hopefully some other Soriano experts can provide further insight.
