You know that Jackie Robinson really wasn't the first black player to play at the major league level, Moses Fleetwood Walker was in 1889.

        Chris,
Just got off the phone with my connection at the Rockies, At this point they have not figured out what they plan on doing with the jerseys, but the rockies do have them not MLB. They said they will either go to auction by the rockies on their site or at games, or will be given to dugout store locations for sale with proceeds going to charity. He did tell me he will let me know what they decide to do within the coming weeks.

He has a small museum down the road from where I grew up.

so why is Jackie Robinson given all this attention and credit for breaking the barrier?

You are so right! I think Ken Burn's Baseball DVD Set documents this. He played one season. I think it was 1884 he played his only season with the Toledo Blue Stockings.

Because African-American players were banned (offically "unofficially") up until Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier.

This was from the link in wiki-pedia on Walker.

"Shortly thereafter, the American Association and the National League both unofficially banned African-American players, making the adoption of Jim Crow in baseball complete. Baseball would remain segregated until 1946 when Jackie Robinson popularly "broke the color barrier" in professional baseball when he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers' minor league affiliate in Montreal."

Actually, William Edward White probably predates Walker:

I believe Robinson was the first to break the color barrier in "Major League Baseball" just not the first Black pro baseball player.

Does anyone know if if the Yankees JR Day jerseys will be available and if so by whom? The whole team wore #42 jerseys. Any information would be a help. Thanks
