    Re: Giants helmet question

I dont know much about helmets, but those white side facemask clips got me looking at getty images. It looks like Plax used clips like that in 2005, 2006 camp, and possibly the first couple of games of 2006 (hard to tell in the pics). He then switched to the clear clips. Hope this helps.

That seems like a good price for a Giants helmet. Maybe people are staying away because of the Lampson letter, or maybe there are issues. We'll see if Robert or any of the other helmet guys have any input.

        Re: Giants helmet question

I'm no Giants helmet expert, but here are my findings. Looks like Plax wore grey shock blocker clips with the Giants from 2005 until their 9/24/06 game. The Giants had a bye week, and the next game on 10/8/06, Plax was either wearing clear side clips, or clear stabilizer clips (can't tell for sure, but clear stabilizer clips were inserted as of November of that year). Regardless, that was the last game Plax wore grey shock blocker clips. The other way to check out this helmet is the dark screws used on the front bumper. Looks to me like Plax wore these dark colored screws on his helmets in early 2005 up until October. Then the helmet can be seen with stainless steel colored screws in the front bumper after October. Obviously screws can be easily changed, and doesn't necessarily denote change of helmet. But if you're trying to lock down a date that he wore this helmet, I would most likely say it's from early 2005. The placement of the chinstrap hookups with regards to the NY decal looks good. My only problem with a lot of these helmets, is where does the chinstrap go? Perhaps these athletes really want to hang onto their chinstrap for superstitious reasons? Not sure...but everything else looks legit in my opinion. But I'm hardly an expert, nor do I know how the equipment managers mark their helmets on the inside? Hope this helps in your decision??

It cant be real - my memory has blanked out any notion that Plaxico played for my Giants. Since I dont remember him now as a Giant, it cant be real.

Awfully easy to replicate that lid, and Lou and Berney Gernay being attached to it scream "caution" to me.

BTW, realstuffsports.com offers a Plax Giants lid that looks pretty accurate, again caution.
