    Ripken glove

i know there've been some good discussions regarding ripken game-used gloves on here over the past few years; notably, how barely any exist in the market or even in private collections because ripken supposedly kept all of his gloves except for 2, one of which he said was stolen.

here's a ripken glove being offered:

    any thoughts?

    Re: Ripken glove

    Rudy,

PSA/DNA at least we know Ripken signed the glove allthough nothing is 100% but still that right there would raise the bar a little.

HOWEVER if you look around the 8 written in black it looks like someone purposely might have tried to smudge it as the area around it is darker it looks like a circle where someone might lick there fingers and give it a good ol smudgey smudge.

    Re: Ripken glove

I know that several years ago I spoke to Bob Clevenhagen at Rawlings and he told me he made all of Ripken's gloves throughout his career. The problem that Bob told is that there are companies out there which could and did reproduce these gloves right down to the smallest detail. Unless the provenance on a Ripken glove was rock solid, I simply would not invest the money into one as based on the one that sold at AMI several years back for I believe $18k or more, I just would not take a chance on it.

I doubt that Cal would give a thumbs up to the stolen one if it did in fact turn up someday and if Cal is correct that he controls all of them except for two that leaves only one other option. If one was stolen, I doubt that Cal would have signed it with a personal inscription at a later date and it surely would not have been signed prior to being stolen.

As usual, the thoroughness in terms of pictures and details in the Legendary Auction leaves a bit to be desired.
