Hi, Can Anyone Help Me With Winfield Bat Records From 1980-1985. I Am Looking At A Large Label Blonde W-273. Would This Be A Good Yankees Bat?
Thanks George

Re: Dave Winfield
Hi George--
Model W273 was clearly Winfield's H & B model of choice during the 1980-1983 'large label; years. For the bat to be a 'large ladel' Yankee bat, it would have to be from 1981, 1982, or 1983.
W273 bats shipped to Winfield for his personal use in those years were 35 1/2 inches in length and nearly all weighed 34 ounces. One order of 35 inch bats went to Winfield (12/19/82 -- see below) , but most that length are noted "Baseball Miscellaneous."
In 1981, W273 H & B bats for Winfield had a Flame Treated Finish, likely giving the blonde look you are describing. In 1982 and 1983 all finishes are documented as Hickory, which would present a much darker appearance. Thus, the bat you are describing should be 35 inches in length, with a weight of either 34 or 36 ounces. It would have been manufactured in 1981.
Note that Model W273 was manufactured to Winfield's specifications on 4/3/79 as follows: "Made New Model Off Of Adirondack DW20 -- New Number W273."
Good Luck in future collecting
