    Wade Boggs 1999

Here is a question for BMH, please. Wade Boggs just consigned and sold thru Hunt Auctions three bats that he used in 1999, his last season in which he collected his 3,oooth hit. The bats each come with a letter of provenance from Boggs and are autographed and inscribed by Boggs "Game used 3,000 hit season." One bat was a Rawlings and the other two were H&Bs. One of the H&B bats was a signature model bat with the MLB logo that was used beginning in 1999. The other H&B bat was a block letter bat. If both H&B bats are from the same year (1999), why would one be a signature model and the other a block letter model? Did Boggs have a contract with H&B in 1999 or not? Thanks.

Wade Boggs was a contract player in 1999. Players can request not to have their autographs put on bats. Boggs went through a period from 1997-early 1999 not having his autograph on the bats.
