Almost everybody on the Mets was using a teammates' bat today...

Not sure what's with the Mets, but today I tried getting pictures of the barrel of all their bats. Almost all were using another players' bat.

David Wright was using Ryan Zimmerman's bat:

Johan Santana was using Gary Sheffield's bat:

Omir Santos was using Daniel Murphy's bat:

Angel Pagan using Fernando Tatis' bat (hard to see but still visible)

Angel Pagan (#16) had #23 batting gloves on:

...and on the Braves, Martin Prado used Tom Glavine's bat:

I guess Glavine isn't good enough for the Bravos, but his bat is.

    Nice shots Kyle. Great information.

I guess a slumping team will try anything to get out of it. Bat swapping being one.

I guess the Metsies don't have a golden thong to pass around.

The Mets had to use other people's bats because their's are broken - they all have holes in them.

This is a great thread. Good job. And a great thread spawns more threads:How many players order bats of another player and not just borrow one. I mean theres got to be a player who just liked another players bat and from then on just used that one-name of the other player on it and all. Not even,"order me those bats and put my name on it" just those bats, as is. If you're under contract can you just start using someone else's model?

During the last part of his AL ROY 1995 season, Marty Cordova used a lot of Kirby Puckett black LVS bats that he got directly from Kirby. He felt that players like Kirby got bats made from better wood than a rookie would get. During Kirby's retirement announcement in the Twins' press room, Kirby teased Marty about it and said that when Kirby Jr. got to be 16, Marty would have to buy him a new car.

I think that started a habit of Marty using other players bats at times. I included several of these "mismatch" bats in my collection and tried to get them dual signed when I could. I should count the different players' bats he used that I have sometime ... just guessing, I'd say it is a dozen or more. I did get a black 1995 LVS P116 Kirby/Marty bat and am so glad I didn't pass on those mismatches.

But not get off track from Kyle's main topic. I think when you're going bad you try someone else's bat and the perception sometimes becomes that the other persons bat feels "lighter" than yours and that's all it takes. God forbid you get a hit using it and there's no turning back. Unless of course, there's a slump.
