O/T: Want to share your own candid photos of players for a possible book?

For Kyle and the many other avid and talented photographers on this site, this may be a way to get your pics in an interesting collection and a possible book:

"Some may not be perfectly focused and many are in black and white, but what Strasberg is looking for are the stories that come with the pictures.

“A snapshot that captures a poignant moment in professional baseball,” Strasberg explained. “The snapshot could be of a player, a ballpark or a mascot. It could be before or after a game. I'm not looking for game action shots. There are professionals who take those every game."

Some photos are taken from the stands. Others as players enter or leave the ballpark. Some are captured away from the park as players relax outside the realm of traditional photographers. There is Mickey Mantle at a golf tournament. Roger Maris, standing in the outfield with the famous Yankee Stadium stands as a backdrop. The young man in the photo is Strasberg himself. Before his professional career led him to a long career as a promotions executive with the San Diego Padres, Strasberg was a fan who loved Maris. He’s still a fan, happily sharing memories of the game with others around the country."

While certainly not awe-inspiring, this is what I shared:

FYI- It's a nice idea, but the contract on the site reads:

" I am/we are granting to Fantography.net™ (and its successors and assigns) the irrevocable, unrestricted and exclusive right to use and publish the photograph worldwide for any purpose and in any manner and media (whether now known or later developed), royalty-free. I/we understand this includes the right to sublicense and the right to create derivative works using such photograph and I/we retain onlythe limited right to use the photograph for personal and non-commercial use. "

Narrow terms and in effect, you're giving all commercial rights over to them. May not mean much to most fans, but it should be noted (especially for someone like Kyle who could sell his images to people for photomatches, etc). Minimum, it'd be nice to get a copy of the book out of it if you contribute a batch of images.

Great points and surely something to review and consider before submitting an image. From looking at "the want list" posrtion of the site, in-game shots are not desired by the would-be author. Instead he asks for street clothes shots, candids, unique etc. Kyle and others could easily supply a few of those style images, if they wanted to and retain rights to 99.9% of their collection of images, for instance. chris
