Re: Vince Coleman LS shipping records

I have Coleman's records. He used many, many different models. If you can be more specific with your request, I'm sure I can help you out.

    GREAT! Here's what I've got:

Two black C271's, both have name in script, with no team name or Louisville Slugger stamped below. (90?)

Two R161's with sig. and L.S. on barrel. One is supposed to be an 85 or 86.

Two dipped dark brown C271's, both have COLEMAN and L.S. on barrel one is app. 33inch and the other is 34inches.

One black M159 app. 34 inches with sig and L.S on barrel.

One M110 Natural flame treated, this is my most suspect, it has a "nipple" on the barrel end of the bat, ie. where it was attached to the lathe.

One C243 sig. with Kanas City Royals

    Any info would be great!
1st timer checking out your website, its outstanding, thanks!

Two black C271's, both have name in script, with no team name or Louisville Slugger stamped below. (90?)

1/31/91, 24 sent to the Mets, 34”/32 oz.
3/26/91, 24 sent to the Mets, 34”/32 oz.
During 1990, the finishes on the only C271 orders were “NONE” and “SNONE” (“S” for Smith, which is double dipped). It’s generally accepted that bats with nothing under the signature were made in 1990. Apparently, the practice continued into early 1991.

Two R161's with sig. and L.S. on barrel. One is supposed to be an 85 or 86.

39 R161 bats were shipped to the Cardinals between 3/20/87 and 9/4/87. Three more R161 bats were shipped to “Baseball Promotions” and are not considered game bats. If your bat is 34”, it’s a promo bat – the real ones were either 33” or 33.5”. Twelve had a flame finish; the rest were unfinished. His records show no other R161 bats.

Two dipped dark brown C271's, both have COLEMAN and L.S. on barrel one is app. 33inch and the other is 34inches.

7/18/84, 3 sent to the Louisville Redbirds, 34”/30 oz.
4/12/85, 3 sent to the Louisville Redbirds, 34”/31 oz.
6/27/85, 12 sent to the Cardinals, 33.5”/31 oz.
8/26/85, 12 sent to the Cardinals, 33.5”/31 oz.
9/26/85, 12 sent to the Cardinals, 33.5”/31 oz.

One black M159 app. 34 inches with sig and L.S on barrel.

Only one order – 7/24/87, 34”/32 oz., 12 shipped. He didn’t receive any more M159 bats until 1991; those would have “New York Mets” under his name.

One M110 Natural flame treated, this is my most suspect, it has a "nipple" on the barrel end of the bat, ie. where it was attached to the lathe.

His only orders for M110 models are from mid-1988 to March 1989. I’m a bit unclear on this one. When you say “Flame Treated,” do you mean it says “Flame Treated” where it’s supposed to say “Powerized”? If so, that’s a store bat. Or, do you mean it’s a pro model with a flame finish? Either way, I can’t imagine a player would use a lathe bat in a game. Very odd.

One C243 sig. with Kansas City Royals

2/28/94, 12 sent to the Royals, natural finish, not cupped, 33.5”/32 oz.
6/13/94, 12 sent to the Royals, black finish, cupped, 34:/31.5 oz.
6/6/95, 12 sent to the Royals, flame finish, not cupped, 34”/31.5 oz.

    Hope that helps!
