Cal Ripken Jr. Bat order records
Hello Mike:
I am back, can you tell me about several what I would term more obscure bat shipping records for Cal Ripken Jr.
I am looking for all shipping records for each of the following models by total number of bats and years shipped.
LS M110A
LS R161
LS M159
I already saw your previous response to the question on the LS S188. Besides these models and Cal's normal P-72 are there any additional models that show up only a few times that would be considered unique or very desirable as a collectible besides anything that may have been ordered and or shipped for promo's?
As always, I appreciate all of your help with this.
Thanks
Brett Herman

Re: Cal Ripken Jr. Bat order records
Hi Brett--
Here is a quick summary for hars-core Ripken collectors:
Early orders were M110 (first order 10/1978 was 34.5 inch / 32 oz with a Natural Finish. Model M110 orders continued in 1980 and would be considered Ripken's earliest and one of the most rare game bats shipped to him (4 orders totaling 17 bats...2 would have 1977-79 labeling).
Another early model shipped to Ripken was M159. These will be found throughout all labeling periods between 1980 and 1983, 35 inches in length with Natural (1980 and 1981) and Hickory (1981 - 1983) finishes.
Model R161 was ordered twice on 4/26/83 (35.5 inches) and 2/15/85 (35 inches) for a total of 30 bats.
One order of model O16 is documented on 6/20/84 -- 6 bats 35 inches / 33 ounceswith Flame treated finish.
One order of eleven M253 bats on 4/12/86, 35 inches / 33 ounces with Flame treated Finish.
Models to stay away from would be models K55, R43, and S2 as all shipments were to various promo and retail companies with no specified weight. Also, be aware that truckloads of 35 inch Model P72 bats were shipped to Anaconda Kaye between 1988 and 1997 in a variety of finishes. P72 was Ripken's primary model through most of his career, so be very insistent on provenance and individual player game use characteristics when considering this model bat.
This post pretty much supplements the previous post you cited Brett....feel free to ask about any specific bat you consider in the future
.
Good Luck
