Girardi Rockies tagged "1995 Extra 48"

Can anyone shed some light on this? I have a Joe Girardi Rockies road #7 which is tagged 1995 with EXTRA and 48 underneath it. I bought it back then because I always liked him. However, 1995 was his last year with Colorado. Shouldn't he have a jersey with his own name on the tag? It shows wear from catcher's gear.

    Zybu -

As has been stated here many times in the past, the Rockies have NEVER had any type of consistency in their tagging - even in the same year you might see at least three different tag types.

I own a 2004 GU Home Helton (no 'name' tag in tagging) as well as a 1997 GU Home Walker (his MVP season) - again, no 'name' tag in tagging.

I live in Denver and cannot begin to tell you how many different tagging types I have seen on Rockies jerseys. And NOT just the Russell jerseys. My understanding is that they are pretty loose with the tagging on their Majestic jerseys as well.

My personal opinion - if MLB is serious about stopping fraud - is that the MLB should institute a League wide Tagging Policy as well as League wide Bat marking policy, etc so there would be no more questions or speculation if an item was actually issued/used by a player and not just a 'club house' item.

    Joe:

Jersey is probably OK, but, any chance you could post a picture of the tag?

The tag print font looks proper for 1995 Russell gamers. Apparently Girardi got an extra jersey issued to him later in the season. I just saw an extra Rawlings jersey (2001 Rangers alternate Marcus Jensen) on eBay...it's "extra" notation was a box tagged "X".

To try and exrtend this thread for its educational value, can Forum members post other examples (with pics, if possible) of tags from legitimate, marked extra jerseys?
