    Frik:

Someone on eBay has a Bagwell jersey advertised as GU from 1991 on eBay until Jan. 9. The opening bid is low ($499), and, while the front and back look good, the tag photo is not terribly clear...you might want a bigger picture of the tags before you place a bid.

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for the info. However, the seller's feedback makes me nervous, as people have claimed that he has been selling fakes and knockoffs.

Actually, I'm not that into jerseys, except I am looking for a Bagwell Victory jersey from the 1990s. Thanks again for the help.

Still looking for Jeff Bagwell items...especially cleats and gloves. I would like a game-issued fielder's glove, so if you've seen one, email lazukor@gmail.com. Thanks.

    Frik:

There's a salesman's sample Astros 1996 Bagwell on eBay until 5PM CST on the 14th. The guy is selling it as game-used, but it isn't (odd color scheme on NOB and number). Price is low though, so you might be able to snag it for what it is, not what HE SAYS it is.

I saw that jersey. But I don't know what a salesman's sample is. Can you please explain?

Salesman's samples are jersey made to be shown to the team's hierarchy in order to consider a switch in styles, manufacturers, color schemes, logos, etc. It is a presentation of the supplier's product. Apparently, someone at Russell must have thought Astros jerseys with the oddly colored numbers was something to pitch to team management for possible use, which the Astors (fortunately) decided to pass on.

I might also add that this jersey has been floating around for at least ten years...when I worked for Grey Flannel in the late 1990s, Richie or Andy (I forget whom) called me as they were presented this jersey and asked my thoughts on whether or not to do an LOA on it. When I heard about the numbers' color scheme, I told them it wasn't a gamer, and they declined doing the LOA.
