    2006 Majestic Jerseys

Not sure if anyone else has heard about this but majestic has a new type of jerseys that some of the teams have already started using. Here is the description:

The 2006 season brings an innovative jersey to the playing field! The Cool Base jersey provides temperature control to keep the wearer cool, dry and comfortable. These jerseys feature authentic decorations and will be worn on-field during hot game days. They feature a technologically advanced fabric with stretch-mesh gussets for the ultimate in cool performance comfort.

They are now selling the retail version on mlb.com....they sound kind of like the BP jerseys which I think are kind of cheap but I am an Old School kind of collector.

Nice eye MVP....wonder if that is just Woods specifications or are more made with that in the arm pit?

Several teams are trying out the Cool Base jerseys. Check out http://uniwatchblog.com/ -- Paul Lukas has written about these several times. You can search his site for mentions of "cool base" to see all references to these new jerseys.

Thanks for the info...Here are some quotes from the articles in UNI WATCH.....

Latest news about MLB’s Cool Base jerseys comes from an anonymous source in the Astros’ clubhouse, who writes: “Found out today that we’ll be wearing the red-brick away Cool Base jerseys. Evidently there’s a problem with getting gray ones, because there are too many shades of gray. I saw the Cool Base and it is EXACTLY the same material as the batting practice jersey. It even has that screened-on jogtag like the BP jersey. You’re going to be able to see the difference if you pay enough attention to the gussets and the material — the red one I saw was pretty obvious. The clubhouse personnel were dreading cleaning them, because scrubbing the material is evidently a nightmare.” Yup, sounds like another real winner from MLB..............

A few months ago, something called a “Cool Base” jersey began showing up in Major League Baseball’s online merchandise listings. According to the sales copy, “The 2006 season brings an innovative jersey to the playing field! The Cool Base jersey provides temperature control to keep the wearer cool, dry and comfortable. These jerseys feature authentic decorations and will be worn on-field during hot game days. They feature a technologically advanced fabric with stretch-mesh gussets for the ultimate in cool performance comfort.”
Leaving aside for a second the question of who actually got paid cash money for invoking the term “authentic decorations,” I’d forgotten all about these jerseys until last night, when I got an e-mail from someone who works for the Texas Rangers (and who prefers to remain anonymous): “Tonight our team wore new jerseys for the first time at home (they wore them once on this last road trip too, I believe). They are mesh, not double-knit. The mesh is basically the same as the batting practice jersey, except without the underarm ventilation. These jerseys are infinitely cooler in the Texas heat than the normal jerseys, and it is nearly impossible to tell the difference unless you’re up close.”
