Anybody willing to admit to collecting Umpire/Referee Game Used?
Just curious if anybody collects umpire/referee game used and is willing to admit it.
I know I've seen a couple home plate umpire items over the years, but really surprisingly little. Mostly I've seen uniforms, a couple hats, chest protectors and face masks...
Anyhow, there's an article on all the MLB.com sites right now and here is the umpire's website...
Couple of items look pretty cool:

I don't collect these items, but I know that I see game used items from referees on NFL Auctions from time to time. I actually think there is some autographed game used items on there right now.
I'm not sure if you were only referring to baseball or not, but just thought I'd throw out the NFL stuff I've seen.

I bid on an umpire's uniform and equipment collection in a Lelands auction, but lost. Included his hand held strikes and balls counter.
I've bought HOF umpire autographs before.

Re: Anybody willing to admit to collecting Umpire/Referee Game Used?
Don't know if the thread is solely geared towards baseball, but I have a majority of all my dad's stuff, and he was an official in the Southwest Conference for 14 years, then football officials supervisor after that. I have his caps, flags, whistles, pencils, hard plastic cards (used to record penalties during the game), etc.
In fact, through my dad, I was able to get a bit of game used equipment as well, as many of the teams in the old SWC used the tear-away jerseys in the late 1970s through early 1980s, so once a jersey was torn, the player would have to come off the field for one play to change jerseys, and the equipment manager would dump the torn jersey in a bin and later throw them out after the game. I was able to get a full (albeit torn) Erik Dickerson of SMU and Robert Herring of Houston that way (almost all the Cougars, regardless of position, wore tear-aways for a couple of years in the late 1970s).Jay Shelton

Yuck. No thanks. The only exception would be maybe if it came from a game I was enamored with. Game 6 of the 1975 World Series. Something like that-Maybe...
