Need help with ARod '07 pinstripe/questions

    Hi everyone-
I was curious on people's thoughts on this one. I have come across an ARod 2007 jersey with #10 Rizzuto band and was trying to photomatch it since there were only 21 home games played between Aug 14- Oct 8 (ALDS w/ Cleveland).

So, I started working backwards on the dates starting with the Oct 8th game and looks like front/back match 100%, to me??? I've never owned a home Yankee jersey before, but hear that no two pinstriped jerseys are the same??
The only question I have is on the back, the pinstripes look like they match when looking around the '13', but the stripes don't match going up to the MLB logo along the back of the neck?????

Does this make sense? Has this happened to anyone else where all the pinstripes look to match around the front 'NY' logo and back numerals, but not with the MLB logo? To me, I guess it's not a match.

I've combed all the photo sites (Gettys/AP/Corbis/US Press/Icon) and not too many have back shots of ARod to tell the other home games in that timeframe.

Here's the pics and with Getty's from 10/8 that seems to photomatch, minus the MLB logo on the back neck?

Sorry, I don't have any software to blow up the 2nd Getty's pic of his back, but if you look closely, the pinstripe to the right of the MLB logo looks like it touches the right side of the logo, while the photo jersey shows the pinstripe a couple mm away from it, leaving more white space.

If anyone can blow up the pic, that would be great!

You might want to check out the photomatching by scott from this thread. You will need to read his PDF files.

Here's a source talking about a photomatched pinstripe too. It talks about contact points at the seams, buttons and crest.

To a collector, there is no joy parallel to finding that elusive home-run ball, or a jersey worn by a legendary player. Smithsonian Baseball: Inside the World's Finest Private Collections celebrates the abiding passion for our national pastime, as witnessed by the dedication of the sport's most devoted collectors. The first book of its kind, Smithsonian Baseball features revealing stories and lavish photography highlighting 21 of the best private collections of baseball memorabilia in existence. From a rare copy of the first written rules of the game (1848) to Mark McGwire's record-shattering home-run ball (1998), these impressive collections span baseball's entire history. Some of the game's most historically significant artifacts are part of these private collections, yet most have never before been seen by the public. Marvel at the memorabilia as you read about the historical background of the objects and get to know each collector's passions and motivations. Some of the collections are all-encompassing; others focus on a specific era or type of memorabilia -- game-used bats, for example, or folk art, or celluloid pin-back buttons. One collection features only relics and memorabilia from the grand old ballparks of the past; another comprises items from overseas exhibition tours of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Some of the most valuable vintage photographs and advertising displays as well as the most sought-after baseball cards are in these collections, including the famous T206 Honus Wagner, the highest professionally graded set of 1915 Cracker Jacks, and a gem-mint condition 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle. A father-daughter collecting duo has an impressive collection of World Series scorecards and programs, dating back to the inaugural series in 1903.The book also includes seven "tips" essays. The hobby's leading experts offer advice on collecting and authenticating artifacts, and show how to build and organize your own impressive 19th-century memorabilia or baseball card collection. Weigh the benefits of having a general collection versus a very narrow one. Find out how to store and display your collectibles. Learn to distinguish between an original first-generation photograph versus a wire photo, a vintage jersey worn at home games as opposed to one worn on the road, a player's game-used bat and one made for retail sale -- and much, much more. It's the perfect gift for any baseball fan, young or old, a baseball collectible in its own right.

        Thanks Joel.. very informative

Also, just another general question about this or any other "superstar" jersey in the last several years, wouldn't there usually be a MLB hologram# accompanying it? I know of a Jeter one offered several times by an Ebay user that has a home one with Steiner & MLB holgrams that pinpoints the exact games it was used. So, if this one is in the same 8/14-10/8 timeframe and it's a superstar like ARod, I guess I would assume there might be one?

I don't know as I don't collect baseball uniforms, so maybe there isn't always a MLB authenticator at every game, but seems logical for this superstar.
If anyone can shed any light on this aspect too, I would be extremely grateful.

        Thanks!

MLB doesnt authenticate by popularity of a baseball player.

It goes by when they are on hand, they will authenticate for Steiner, given that steiner contracts the MLB authenticators to do so.

So that is why during some time periods you will find some Steiner jerseys authenticated while others are not.

The 13 on the back does not match up. Look at the #1, on the left side the pinstripe goes through the number in the ARod pictures, on the jersey you have it is at the very left of the number.

Re: Need help with ARod '07 pinstripe/questions

The Picture of Alex Rodriguez walking in the dugout dropping the cup doesn't seem to be a match.

              BUT.............

              That doesn't mean it isn't!!!

First of all I am not sure if many people realize GettyImages is not a 100%. That particular picture could of been from a different game and misdated. It does happen a lot with Getty. If you have to do an absolute thorough search through getty don't just search AROD do searches of "Yankee" through that time period of games. You will be surprised how many more shots you might find showing AROD. Getty has multiple pictures misdated or mislabeled. You have to check a few.
Example - I did a search for Enrique Wilson from the Yankees in all the pictures there were 3 in there of Gary Sheffield mislabeled as Enrique Wilson.

Also remember it could be possible if that picture is from that exact game AROD could of changed Jerseys between innings who knows????? It does happen.
