Ever afraid to ask for help?

Has anyone ever been afraid to ask for help on an item on this forum over an item they have seen on ebay as it could be a hidden gem or steal?

I bought the bat as the risk was very little over the potential reward to pass up but for acouple weeks now I have debated bringing the item to the forums attention as it was a buy it now item. I was very afraid if i linked people up to the item someone might snatch it up before I could get my answers.

Has anyone else ever had this problem?

Oh just in case u were wondering the item. I collect Andruw Jones items. I have others of the same bat so I am confident in it originally being ment for Andruw. The number on the bottom of the bat is # 10. Andruw has only played with 2 #10s one being Chipper Jones and the other being Michael Young. Either way I think i got a great deal. I got the bat for the current Andruw Jones game used bat going rate on ebay which is $65.00-100. So regardless of which one of these 3 guys used it I got a great deal but I really wanted answers before buying it. Anyone know of Chipper or Michael Young using any of Andruws bats?

A good member to contact would be Kylehess he follows the Braves / Andruw Jones.

I am sure he would be able to help you narrow down the possibilities.

no because everyone on here is up on all the auctions and when you buy something it is not easy to return it so if i wasnt sure id rather miss out then have a hassle with a bad item.

Most forum members respect that unwritten rule and don't steal the item from underneath other collectors. I've found that this forum really is full of knowledge and wrls more to the collectors advantage more times then not. Sharing makes us all better collectors, wiser. I will also add that you'll find others with similar interests and that will normally help you the collector as you network with others and are able to obtain more items then you wouldve without other collectors. Also, communicating with other collectors can help you when purchasing/bidding on items (you won't compete with each other out of respect).

Legal also put it well when he said that most of us forum members are in the know of what's going on. I've purchased items in the past from members and/or readers that don't post or rarely do because I posted about items in the past. Use that 93 Thomas game used jersey that has been talked about on the forum for the past two weeks. It educated everyone and potentially helped people be smarter in their individual quest for a Thomas gamer. Have faith. If you are thinkin about dropping some serious coin I'd rather make an educated decision than one on speculation. Also, a lot of our members are specialists in their own right and are receptive to private emails and/or pm's. Hope that helps to ease your mind.

The bat brand is Old Hickery. I have found images of Andruw using this brand bat so I know its something he has used and had made for him. I havent been able to find any pictures of Chipper using anything but Rawlings and Louisville Sluggers though.

Well its good to know that people on this forum are honest and willing to help.

I think that Wade and Leagle summed it up perfectly. Most of us do have a good idea as to what is available in our areas of interest and would never go out of our way to do anything that would appear to be unethical.

Having said that, At times, it can be a bit uncomfortable when you are actively watching or bidding on an Auction item and someone posts it on the Forum.

At times I wonder If people "over broadcast" what they might be interested in?

At times I wonder if people are truely interested, or just out gathering info?

At times I think folks do an incredibly good job of hiding what they are looking at while gathering info.....which I fully subscribe to.

I must admit, in the past (especially E-bay) I have already been looking at an item....seen it on the forum..... and then adjust my strategy accordingly when I see people chatting about it.

So.....I guess my answer is yea, I am sometimes afraid to ask for help, but realize that I need to watch out for my own best interest and proceed with caution and try to gather information without fully exposing my intentions.

What the hey....with the nature of our hobby, we are going to be constantly bidding against each other anyways. As long as you act in "GOOD FAITH" and don't go out of your way to purposely screw someone else everything seems to work just fine!......There is plenty of stuff to go around.

This is common around here. This is often why a Private Collector can & will charge more for an Item, Bats in particular!

Ebay Sellers will often not provide good pics & I certainly wont spend my Cash on a Bat that way, specially if I have a few questions.

I know of one seller that provided 11 images all of the same Barrel side, say what???

I know there has been an item that I had been following for awhile and someone posted on here about it and within an hour there were multiple additional bids. I can see both ends, most of the members here are respectful when it comes to that, but this forum is often read my many who aren't members and may not care in the least about a moral issue like this. I would say that I trust all the member whom I have dealt with, even in those times where money is exchanged prior to receiving items which I wouldn't do if I didn't know the person from here.
