    Opinions on David Justice Jersey

    Hello everyone,
Would like to see if anyone can find evidence that this jersey has any chance of being legit. The largest concern is the nameplate lettering. Does anyone have any photos from the 90-91 seasons thats shows this same style lettering. I know there are some Justice/Braves guys here on the forum.
    Thanks!
P.S. Big thanks to Kyle Hess and his help so far!!

Re: Opinions on David Justice Jersey

I have already spoken to John about this jersey, but for anyone else who has decided to do some research, here are my points...

It is well known that "back in the day" there were no sets 3, 4, 5, etc... I think this jerseys falls in that timeframe where multiple sets were not being used. After looking through numerous photos of Justice wearing a blue Rawlings jersey, it seems as if he is wearing the same exact jersey in each picture. Wash wrinkles in the photos confirm the match, but there is no match to the jerseys Justice is wearing in the photos and the jersey being offered on Ebay.

Another point i would like to make is there is not much usage on the jersey. The numbers and other patches look too crisp. The are a few loose white threads on the "B" in Braves...but thats about it. In my opinion, if this jersey is indeed legit, I would at least expect to see lots of wash wrinkles. Especially givin the time period.

still if no set 3s, there were set 1 and 2s with a set tag back then.

My comment about there not being sets 3, 4, 5, etc... was to explain that there were very few sets being used, which means that this jersey should show more use than it currently does. Looks crisp.

But your right, there should be a set flag. If the seller obtained this jersey through an auction in PA like he claims, he should have some paperwork. Maybe the paperwork could tell us a little more about the jersey.

Looking at my early 90's jersey pics, the majority have a year flag and a set flag.

UPDATE: I have talked to seller again and he says he will contact Auction House tomorrow. I explained to him some of the concerns with the jersey and he understands that answers are needed. He will contact me once he talks with them.
Likewise, I would like to know someones theory about the missing SET tag.

You baseball boys are pretty good at your craft. I'm impressed.

I am looking at Getty image 53033976 this photo is from 1991, what stands out to me is the placement of the nameplate and how much material is left on the ebay jersey compared to the getty photo. The Font on the ebay one looks much larger. Also the Rawlings tag could only be from 1991 because they switched to different tags is 1992. I guess it is possible to have the 1991 tag used in 1992 but it is only a possibility.

This jersey has a few red flags that have a number of us scratching our heads. The seller claims the jersey came from the coaches corner auction house. I just ran across this artile online and it looks like many people have had problems with items comming from there. http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=113195

Coach's Corner auctions have been discussed on here at some length. It is safe to say they have had more than a few authentication issues. Below are a few threads related to their auctions:

These are just a few highlights from over three pages of results from a quick search of the forum. The forum search function is very useful when you are trying to gather information on an auction house, player characteristics, etc. as it is a great source.

Yeah, once I saw that CC was the supplier, I did a search. That quickly made my mind up as what to do. Thanks to all!
