    John Wooden Passes Away

The Wizard of Westwood is gone. May God bless him and his family and may he rest in peace. A true gentleman and legend is gone.

    Re: John Wooden Passes Away

This is so sad. He was a great coach and teacher. I still remember getting his autograph at the Bruin Center and being in awe. His pyramid of success is just amazing. I remember his former players Keith Wilkes and Bill Walton reminincing about the first day of practice and how John Wooden taught the players how to put socks on properly. It brought a smile to my face every time I heard their recollection that something so simple can be broken down to art by a meticulous person. The man from a simple Midwest background who made the move to the West Coast and to greatness as the Wizard of Westwood. May he rememebered for being a great person and a great teacher. He gentle and caring soul will be missed.

John Wooden has made some amazing quotes. Here is my favorite:

You can't live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you.

That may give you some insight of how this man carried himself. Random acts of kindness anyone?

Class personified. Between Wooden and Ernie Harwell, two of the greatest and most decent men ever in their respective roles have left us. Both lived good long lives, and sports is much the better for having them.
