    Happy Birthday Eddie Gaedel

Here's to the shortest player ever to play in a MLB game. At 65 pounds and standing 3 feet 7 inches, Eddie gained his immortality in the second game of a St. Louis Browns doubleheader on Sunday, August 19, 1951 in which he made his first and only plate appearance; a walk on 4 consecutive balls. He would then be replaced by a pinch runner at first base. His jersey, which is in on display in Cooperstown at the Baseball HOF, bore number "1/8".

    Eddie died June 18, 1961.

His great-nephew Kyle Gaedele was drafted in the 32nd round by the Rays in 2008 out of high school. Standing 6'4" Kyle chose to attend college at Valparaiso University instead of signing.
