1971 NFL Football w/Original Box etc...

Offered is a vintage “D” code Wilson NFL football. I believe the “D” represents the fact that this ball was manufactured in 1971 – The first year and/or style of NFL football was used with the small version of the NFL shield. Pete Rozelle was the Commissioner.

The ball is complete with its original box (moderate water damage), Wilson tag and inflating needle which is still in its original and unopened envelope. Speaking of the box, stamped on the side of the box, is the Year and Month (DU = 1971 June) the football shipped from IDA, Ohio and the Model of the football – F1010.

Of note, only the official NFL footballs that are sold exclusively to the NFL franchises are labeled with the model number F1010. General public and/or retail footballs are labeled with the model number F1000 – both footballs are essentially the same ball but the F1010 footballs have to pass a more stringent quality control checks.
