George Sisler bat in Lelands
Note that this bat says it was used for George Sisler's 257th hit of 1920--which set a record not broken until 2004 (by Ichiro). It says the hit was a homer:

...however, Sisler's last game of 1920 featured 3 hits--and none of them were homers: http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...&t=b&year=1920 . His last homer was 2 days previous to his last game of 1920 (he had hits in all of these last games).
When that part's wrong, I wonder if it really was his last hit of 1920 or not.

Re: George Sisler bat in Lelands
I'm sure whomever dropped $152,000 on it is thinking "eh, close enough!"
For nearly 20% juice on both ends, perhaps we're asking a little too much due diligence?
On the other hand, I got what I think is a great deal from this auction, helped in part by the fact that they didn't realize how nice the bat actually was. Yay for me!

Re: George Sisler bat in Lelands
I guess the little index card taped on there seemed so old that everybody must've figured it was put on there around 1920/1921, which means it would've been fresh history.
Not many people know that they can look up George Sisler's day-by-day stats on sites like b-r.com, either. But if I were dropping $150K, I'd probably go look up a NY Times box score from that game, or something...
