those who collect game used basketballs/footballs
is there a need to inflate the balls from time to time so they retain their shape? if they are on display and never touched, how much pressure/air do they lose over time?

Can't address basketballs, but yes, footballs do lose pressure over time. I have several from bowl games, and I have to "re-inflate" them about once a year or so.

thanks Jayworld, what kind of pump do you use? is it the ones you can get at Modells or are there special ones made for game used, since they need to be handled more with care?

The basketballs I have displayed lose some air over time, but you can't tell by looking at them. I might top them off every couple of years. No special pump is needed.
