    A P Images photo guestion

I found a picture of Josh Hamilton hitting a tape measure home run at the Ballpark in Arlington on the AP image site. When I contacted them about the picture taken on June 27, 2010 I was told they do not sell baseball pictures. I was surprised as I thought Pictopia used to sell AP pictures. I looked at the MLB site, which for finding a special picture is usually worthless, and they don't have the picture. Does anyone know how to get an AP picture. They appear now to be worse than Getty since I understand Getty will sell pictures for a fortune. Anyone have other sources for pictures like the Hamitlon home run picture.

All about the money... Licensing exclusivity.

Where can I find sports images that are not of the NFL or NCAA?Current licensing agreements do not allow AP Images to offer sports photography from any other leagues or associations.

I'm not happy about it either. I wanted to get a large print to go with my photomatched Billy Butler bat from a 3 Double Game and 2HR Game and AL POTW award, but the only good picture is from Ed Zurga/AP. So I am stuck with the low-res web-hosting pics.

I think Getty has the official MLB license and naturally with my luck Getty has no images from the games I need.

Maybe you will be lucky and find the picture on Getty.

When I contacted AP Images/Pictopia about purchasing a Jimmy Rollins photo earlier this year they said I had to contact Getty about purchasing the image but the image I want is not even listed on the Getty site at this time.

So something has definitely changed because I bought 3 Dontrelle Willis MLB photos through Pictopia last year with no problems at all.

That was what surprised me too because I bought several AP baseball pictures not that long ago with no problem. Who provides the pictures on the mlb shop site. Most of them are generic pictures of some guy swinging at a meaningless pitch and are worthless for special hits and photo matching.

    It appears that Getty does.
