Has Chipper Jones played his last game

Facing a year long rehab following all the talk this year about possibly retiring after the season. Its too bad he didn't make it through the season, but its been a great career.

The Atlanta Braves confirmed third baseman Chipper Jones has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Jones' agent, BB Abbott, told The Associated Press on Thursday that the third baseman will need surgery and is likely done for the season, a major setback for the first-place Braves.
The 38-year-old Jones was hurt in Tuesday night's game at Houston. He had an MRI exam and met Thursday with the team doctor, Marvin Royster, who delivered the bad news.

"Dr. Royster told him there was definitely instability in the knee," Abbott said. "The ACL looked to be stretched. There's definitely damage done to the ACL. He more than likely will need surgery that would end the season."
Jones was meeting Thursday with his agent and team officials. While it's likely he'll seek a second opinion, Abbott indicated that it's unlikely the news will be any more promising.
"At some point, he will definitely need surgery," the agent said. "The indication was that it will be immediate."
The Braves said they had received the results of the MRI showing the ACL was torn. The team said no timeframe was set for surgery, but added it will take place in the near future and will require about six months of recovery time, meaning Jones would be done for the year.

Using my powers of great foresight...

Chipper retires, rehabs the knee and takes over as hitting coach from Terry Pendelton when Fredi Gonzalez takes over for Bobby Cox next season.

    Y'all heard it here, first.

    Of course he has.

Chipper himself iniated a talk with management towards the begining of the season that he wanted to retire. I am willing to bet they talked him on, to keep playinig. Probably saying "Hey finish out the season and let's see what happens" "We need you". I mean let's face it he has been the face of the Braves for many years.

It's funny they say it will be a major set back for the braves who are a first place team.
Maybe morale wise or being missed around the clubhouse. But not numbers wise.
    BA 265 hr's 10 RBI's 46 - aren't exactly blow me away numbers

But I am sure the fanbase will miss him.

Also I would say it would probably even be a bit longer at his age 38 with wear and tear his rehabbing would take a bit longer and by thte time he would come back he would be 39.

You can't necessarily look at season numbers and make that determination though. He was batting .400 with a 1.304 OPS and 3 HR since August 1st. He ended April with a .230 BA. He started slow but had been batting like the Chipper of old.

Look at his numbers from last year.

Just because he has a quick spark doen't mean its going to last

Last year was last year. .381 on base percentage is 11th in the National League. Is there any team that can lose a player with a .381 OBP and it not be a major blow?

Hes done. Why go through hell to come back at his age? Hes got his MVP, his ring, his batting title and his money. He won't get to 500 homers and he probably will be a hofer though I would not be shocked if it takes him awhile.
