    Hi Rob,

Looks awesome! Based on the fact that the cap has a MLB logo on the backside indicates that this is a post 1992 cap. Would love to see photos of the inside tags under the cap if you have them.

It probably is Cal Jr.'s, but it's not a BP cap as exists today. BP caps didn't appear in MLB until 1998-99 ( I forget which) and the styles between now and then have all used some form of micromesh or dry-fit fabric.

Well...yes and no. This cap was introduced as an alternate in 1995, but for some reason, the Orioles chose to use them almost exclusively as BP caps. (This is the same year they were removing the placket piping from the alternate jerseys by hand! )

Nice cap. The thing about guys like Cal is he retired before the game used boom so anything you can find that he wore is awesome.

Based on the tags, dating it to 1999-2000.

That cap was worn from 1995-1997. Replaced by a one-year style cap in 1998 and then again in 1999 by the cap that was worn through 2008.
BTW, if the bird is fat and puffy, it's most likely a 1997 game cap (if legitimate).

    Rob,

Why the obvious attempt to cover up the size in the photo of the tagging, by pushing up the crown of the cap so that it covers the 7 1/4?

Oh....that's right, Cal Ripken wore a 7 3/8 during this period, making your cap something else altogether. Now I understand.

This same discussion occurred with a Ripken batting helmet. Cal wore a 7 3/8 during the late 1980's until the end of his career in 2001. I have seen real Cal caps from 1995 that were all 7 3/8 and they also had good use.

The cap pictured looks fresh and some ink run around the #8

    Why try to change history?
