1973-1975 Tony Perez R43 Game Used Bat

I have a 1973-1975 period Tony Perez R43 game used bat. Bat came from the Reds 580 Gift Shop. The bat measures exactly 35 ¼”. Vince’s guide depicts bats measuring 35”, 35 ½” and 35 ¾”. Does anyone have shipping records to confirm if there were any 35 ¼” orders that may have been omitted from Vince’s book. Also, ¼” variance to shipping records is okay; would it have been more likely for a bat to be shorter or longer than ordered. Hunt has a similar bat in their current live auction that also measures 34 ¼”.

Re: 1973-1975 Tony Perez R43 Game Used Bat

The lengths for Perez' 1973-75 H & B orders are correct as noted in Vince's book. There are no documented orders for a length of 35.25 inches that were overlooked. As you note, however, a variation of + .25 inches has been established by authenticators as an acceptable variation. In this case, of the 224 model R43 bats ordered by Perez during that label period, 200 of the bats were ordered at 35.5 inches. Thus, the .25 inch variance is most probably from a 35.5 inch bat, likely as a result of achieving the ordered weight.

This bat is eligible for certification through the linked service for GUU members:
