Has anyone seen this style of NFL Jersey before?
I recently picked up this Eagles Jersey and noticed that both shoulders and under the nameplate is made up of many 1 inch squares sewn together? There are over 50 pieces all perfectly sewn together like a quilt and then sewn on to the Jersey?
Very odd.....Have I just somehow missed this style over the years?
Any thoughts on this?

I'm pretty sure I've seen this style used by the Eagles before. I'm thinking it's kind of like the "ribbed" look Bears linemen jerseys have. The idea is to reinforce the shoulders so they don't tare as easily from the large amount of impacts.

Are they really little pieces sewn together or simply rows of stitching added...maybe to reinforce that area of the jersey?

They are actually small pieces sewn together. The collar, shoulders and upper back were created as a quilt and then sewn into the Jersey.

I have two Eagles linemen in my collection from the 2008 season. Both the Runyan and the Thomas are Meigray uniforms with letters from the Eagles. Both have the described pattern

Very Cool....Anybody have any other teams with this style?
It must increase the cost of production?

I believe those jerseys were re-assembled by a card collector who had a bunch of those game-used jersey cards. They obviously re-assembled the swatches and sewed them back to their original position. Just kidding.

Cool jersey. I've owned a Browns, Bears and some Cowboys jerseys with the same ribbed shoulders. I have one Cowboys jersey left and when I get a chance, I'll shoot a scan of it.

Mull, they are definitely not little squares sewn together, but simply a stitching pattern known as "quilting". The primary purpose being to reinforce the shoulder yoke of the jersey. I have Bucs jerseys dating back to the mid 90's with the same thing.
