Why is Al Oliver not in the HOF?

I was just wondering if anyone knows or can guess why Al Oliver is not in the HOF? His stats are as good or better than many who are there.

Re: Why is Al Oliver not in the HOF?

Oliver played most of his games for the Pirates, hit only 219 home runs, less than 3,000 hits, less than 1,500 rbi's, and barely hit over .300 for his career. Also no major awards like an MVP. Certainly a great player, but not HOF material in my opinion.

But there's probably 30 players in the Hall of Fame who I don't agree with.

Hall Of Fame StatisticsPlayer rank in (·)

    Black Ink Batting - 16 (141), Average HOFer ≈ 27
    Gray Ink Batting - 127 (143), Average HOFer ≈ 144
    Hall of Fame Monitor Batting - 116 (125), Likely HOFer ≈ 100
    Hall of Fame Standards Batting - 40 (159), Average HOFer ≈ 50

Outside of Hall of Fame Monitor, his overall scores are below HOF average.

He also didn't play for the Yankee's.

I personally do not feel that he is a HOF'er based on his stats, but I would complain that he did not get more than 4.3% of the vote in 1991. With his stats, he is someone that should have stayed on the ballot for the 15 years to be considered. One other point I would like to add is that 4 of the 10 players that he is most similar to are in the HOF: Joe Medwick (6), Zach Wheat (7), Roberto Clemente (8), and Enos Slaughter (10).

.300+ avg. and 2700 hits are not that common. Plus a 7 time all star.

If there was a "Hall of Good," Scoop would get my vote!

That is what the Hall of Fame has become with all the watered down players the Veterans commitee has elected.

The sad thing is that Oliver has better stats than many there know.

+1. That's what I think as well. He isn't a HOFer in my opinion, but like you said...there are worse players in the HOF.

I'm not a fan of the Veterans commitee.
