    Question Pen/Marker for autographs suggestion

Heading to the Cubs Convention this weekend and looking for some advice on what type of pen/marker to bring for a couple items.

I have a couple hats that I may look to get signed and a couple mini helmets. I don't know whether to go with a silver Sharpie on them or go with a silver paint pen.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

you probably want to use a paint pen on the mini helmets as silver sharpies don't work well on that material (in my experience).

There's an autograph forum I lurk on and all the peeps on there always swear by paint pens and bad mouth Sharpies. The DecoColor brand seems to be popular over there.

Thanks guys. I was looking into the Deco brand so I think I'll see if I can find one of those around locally.

I've never had a hat signed so I went back and searched that site I mentioned. The only thread I found mentioned black or blue Sharpie. Obviously, that will only fly on light colored hats. Guess it also depends on the lid. Some of those expensive wool hats might suck up the auto.

The local Michael's here (IL) stopped carrying Deco. They were trying to clear them out a few weeks back.

The Michael's here in AZ stopped selling Deco, too. The brand they now carry - can't think of the name, off hand - seems to work okay, though.

But buy the medium point paint pens - not the fine point. If the signer doesn't press down hard enough with a fine point pen, you're going to end up with a near-invisible signature. The medium point pens look huge, by comparison - almost as big as one of those Marks-A-Lot markers - but the auto will come out just fine.

Btw, do silver Sharpies work on anything?

Sharpies are what I use down here but haven't been happy with them.

Silver sharpie worked good on this bat (not GU or anything):

I'm not sure what pen was used here, I bought it from just minors:

I've stopped using Sharpies on baseball cards and balls. They are too thick...

    Mark.
