Obscure but notable obituaries: Jan. 7

Two players with rather obscure careers in the Show but with historical team connections in their brief careers passed away January 7th.

Red Borom only played in 62 games in two MLB seasons, all with the Tigers. The second of those seasons, though, was 1945, a World Championship season for Detroit, who defeated the Cubs, 4 games to 3, in the Cubs' most recent World Series appearance.

Jose Vidal, a native of the Dominican Republic, played parts of 4 seasons in the Majors from 1966-69. The first three were nothing special (except for Vidal) as he wore Indians vests those three years. In the final year, however, he was an original Seattle Pilots, playing 18 games for the expansion franchise until a mid-May release.

The people who don't like the "obscure" obituaries don't have to read them; but, if you're a collector of the Pilots and/or the 1945 Tigers, news like this might be of interest to you.

Borom was an Army Vet of WWII. After a couple nice letters, I called him. What an incredibly kind human being!
