    Sammy Sosa 1998 hr bat # 64 ?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180621882076&ssPageNam e=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

    $ 895 ? what a deal.

    Too bad its not HR bat 64.

    I emailed the seller who claimed the bat has been in his possession since 1998.

    Dear 88bracn,

    ? well , i need more proof than grainy photos . If you have any proof this is the hr 64 bat id gladly pay the buy it now price.

    HIS REPLY

    Sorry but PSA is 100% - I have photos and that's as good as it gets. I am 100% and always all as stated. It is priced way under value with or without any proof even PSA. That's the best I can offer , Thanks - tose photos are from the tribune for that home run date and time and they are as clear as a typical newspaper can get. I have had this bat and paper for a long time 1998 so there is no other way then what I am
    offering.

    Here is the problem.

    Look at the photo he has listed on ebay of Sosa hitting the HR . It IS of HR 64 , only he cut off the photo which show the identifying markings on the bat , the 3 rings from it being a Hoosier bat not a LVS.

    Here is a link to the WHOLE photo , notice the lady taking a photo in the background in both pics , you can clearly see the rings on the Hooiser.

    He also hit HR 65 in the same game.

    The Hoosier Bat Sosa used for HRs 64-66 is in the National Baseball HOF collection. Here's a photo of it along with Ruth's #60 bat, McGwire's #70 bat and Maris' #61 bat. You can clearly see the "64, 65, 66" notation on Sosa's bat.

    Angry Re: Sammy Sosa 1998 hr bat # 64 ?

    You gave it a good shot, Dave, but our seller still isn't or doesn't want to be convinced, as the bat is still up for bids. If my memory is accurate, he's redesigned the listing to reflect some new photos and text...the one photo of the bat now is a very grainy closeup of the bat on the ground while Sosa does his trademark hop (photo is again cropped to omit the Hoosier rings). A second photo is shot from such an angle and distance that I can't even see the bat. He's also now referring to himself as a disabled vet and former player. Whatever the case, you did your part, Dave (and Jeff, as well), but the seller is either in major denial or trying to put one over on somebody.

    I contacted the seller via eBay and sent a link to the HOF's photo. If he thought he truly had Sosa's #64 bat before, he now should realize that bat is in Cooperstown. Let's hope he acts accordingly.
