    RIP: Dave Duerson

As alluded to on the Bears thread in the Game Used Memorabilai section, former Bears, Giants, and Notre Dame safety Dave Duerson was found dead in his home in Miami. He was 51. Cause of death has not been released yet.

Duerson was a starter on the greatest defense of all time, the 1985 Bears, and received a Super Bowl ring from SB XX. He later garnered a second Super Bowl ring with the New York Giants, and was on four consecutive Pro Bowl teams (1986-89).

I remember selecting him in Tecmo Bowl for the Nintendo. Sad to hear this happened.

In an even sadder turn of events, the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner has ruled Duerson's death a suicide.

Very sad. Unfortunately, a number of former NFL players have taken their lives as well:

Latest research indicates that damage may accumulate in the brain from repetitive head trauma, even if injuries are allowed to heal.

I think former Raider Dave Dalby also committed suicide by intentionally driving his car into a tree while under the influence of alcohol a few years back.
